Finding Sacred Connection in Challenging Times: 5 Ways to Prepare for Winter’s Wisdom

    Dec 09 2024

As the wheel of the year turns toward winter, many of us are carrying heavy hearts. Between political turmoil, social media toxicity, and family rifts, 2024 has tested our resilience in ways we never expected. As a tarot reader who works primarily with women, I’ve witnessed firsthand how these challenges have impacted our collective spirit.

Yet winter, in her ancient wisdom, offers us something precious: an invitation to turn inward, to discern what truly nourishes us, and to find authentic connection in a world that often feels fractured. Here are five sacred practices to help you prepare for winter’s wisdom and restore your inner light.

    1. Create a Personal Sanctuary Practice

In times of external chaos, having a dedicated space for inner peace becomes essential. Your sanctuary doesn’t need to be an entire room – even a small corner can become sacred ground.

    How to create your sanctuary:

    • Choose a space that feels naturally calming
    • Add elements that speak to your soul (candles, crystals, plants)
    • Keep a journal and your favorite deck nearby
    • Set boundaries around this space – it’s for nurturing practices only
    • Visit your sanctuary daily, even if just for five minutes

    2. Practice Intentional Disconnection

While staying informed is important, constant connectivity can drain our spiritual reserves. Intentional disconnection isn’t about burying our heads in the sand – it’s about choosing where to direct our precious energy.

I did *not* like who I was all hopped up reading hateful posts & comments.Β  Yes, they’re out there.Β  No, you don’t have to engage.

    Mindful ways to disconnect:

    • Set specific times to check news and social media
    • Create “sacred hours” free from digital influences
    • Use airplane mode during personal rituals
    • Replace scrolling time with card pulling or journaling

    3. Cultivate Authentic Circle Connections

When larger community spaces feel hostile, forming smaller, intentional circles becomes vital. These intimate connections offer safe spaces for processing, healing, and growth.

    Building meaningful connections:

    • Start or join a women’s circle
    • Create a monthly ritual group
    • Form a spiritual book club
    • Share oracle or tarot readings with trusted friends
    • Establish regular check-ins with soul sisters

    4. Develop Discernment Rituals

In a world of information overload, developing strong discernment becomes crucial. This helps us separate what truly nourishes us from what depletes us.

    Creating your discernment practice:

    • Start each morning with a grounding meditation
    • Pull a daily card for guidance
    • Journal about what energizes versus drains you
    • Practice body scanning to check your authentic reactions
    • Set regular boundaries check-ins

    5. Embrace Seasonal Wisdom

Winter naturally calls us to slow down, reflect, and restore. By aligning with this seasonal energy, we can find strength in what might otherwise feel like darkness.

    Working with winter’s energy:

    • Create evening rituals that honor the longer nights
    • Keep a winter wisdom journal
    • Engage in seasonal crafts like candle making
    • Practice winter meditation
    • Connect with nature’s winter lessons

I love writing & use seasonal stickers and colors in my journals.Β  At the moment- warm browns and greens.

    Moving Forward with Grace

As we navigate these challenging times, remember that seeking peace isn’t selfish – it’s necessary. By creating intentional spaces for connection and reflection, we don’t just survive difficult seasons – we find ways to thrive within them.

Winter has always been a time when communities gathered close, sharing warmth and wisdom. Though our modern challenges may look different, this ancient need for meaningful connection remains the same.

Whether you’re dealing with family tensions, feeling overwhelmed by world events, or simply seeking deeper connection, know that you’re not alone on this journey. Spiritual tools, the seasons, and our sacred circles hold wisdom that can guide us through even the darkest nights.

Real Life Tarot | 6 of Pentacles ✨️ I bought a car in December, a loaded red Subaru. Pre-owned.

3 days later, the check engine light comes on. Dashboard lights up, all the safety features (which I've NEVER had in a car before) disengage.

The shop got me in the next day & gave me a loaner. An '08 Honda with 180k on it. Of course! πŸ˜†

I was concerned about being charged, but didn't ask at the shop. I pulled 2 cards on the matter- Chariot & 6 of Pentacles came up. You can't be more clear. Free car repair.

A couple days later, I picked my car up. No charge for the sensor it needed. They were very kind & stood behind the sale. I'd only had it 3 days after all.

β€‹πŸŒ™ Morning β˜•οΈ I got into metaphysics & divination β€‹πŸŒ™ Morning β˜•οΈ I got into metaphysics & divination mostly because I wanted control. The guilt, condemnation & shame modeled for me growing up didn't sit well. More, it was gross. And there were material things I needed.

An apartment for my sister & I, a car, a job, a roommate, a new career, good customers. Even a juicer. Which I got locally for a great deal!

What I really wanted was security & true expression. I was dissatisfied with the path I was told was expected , so I made my own.

Of course, like the Billy Goats Gruff, there are pebbles & boulders to remove along the way. My field of fucks getting more & more barren πŸ˜†

Sometimes I stand there like Sister Goat, prissily whining about how HAAAAARD this is. Then I realize this is MY field I'm tending to. Why would I want/allow all these rocks?

One of the rocks I removed was the need to rush. It showed up as hurried mornings, skipping breakfast, and racing heartbeat. It came from the belief in the futility of all I did. YIKES. Even deeper, that my work - the way I use my talents - doesn't matter. DOUBLE YIKES.

These morning sessions are just one change after realizing that premise of futility. I've noticed clarity in decision-making, more enjoyment of my home & a newfound interest in my work.

Today, look around your own field. What's one rock you can dig out?

P.S. Keep your eyes peeled... something special for Mabon drops for pre-order on Sept 1! 🌾✨)

Windows not only bring in light, they're what separates us from the elements. If you've been feeling stuffy or lacking inspiration, Clean them.

Add a splash of Florida Water to your cloth for a spiritual boost.

It's also a good time to care for nearby plants. Remove dead leaves, water & wipe leaves with a soft cloth.

When the 8 of Wands comes up, I know it's time to streamline & simplify. You need all 8 Wands flying in unison to avoid delays & friction.

I've been decluttering, in part because I want any possible move to be easier. This 8 is about moves, especially a plane trip or one that elevates your life.

Is your passport up to date? Do you have your Real ID? Are there loose ends that need tying up if you spend any amount of time away from home?

Put bills on autopay, set up your calendar for the month & handle any appointments or household tasks.

It's not a sense of urgency, but a heads up to make your upcoming trip smoother. Whatever that may be.

To "decree a thing" recognizes the power we have over our thoughts. You can speak prosperity, health & success over any person, thing or circumstance.

I like to go for walks, muttering decrees for myself & others. The movement, being outside & among my favorite neighborhoods juices up the work.
